RURAL POWYS RETREAT

When Chris and Angela Floate decided it was time to think about building their retirement home, they thought very carefully about the key areas that were most important to them.

As accomplished project managers working on two previous barn conversions, Chris and Angela were not afraid of a challenge. After securing a substantial plot in the rural county of Powys, they tasked themselves with investigating how they would achieve building a light, spacious, economical home, within budget and to their timescale. Garry Dyke, a Director at Point1 Building Systems, prepared an in-depth quote which included 3D models, details of the required structural support, internal walls and flooring. He was there every step of the way to provide assistance and explain the finer details. For Chris and Angela, Point1 Building Systems and the Kingspan TEK Structural Insulated Panel System (SIPS) was the answer to building their thermally efficient home in as short a timescale as possible.

Chris and Angela received their quotation from Point1 Building Systems in February 2017 and were quickly convinced that this was the company and system to use. The SIPS construction began in May 2017 using TEK 142 on the walls and TEK 172 on the roof. The complete SIPS thermal envelope had taken around three weeks to complete. With their experience in project managing other building projects and a lot of hard work and determination, Chris and Angela moved into their home in November 2017 and are currently landscaping their new garden. They are an inspiring and formidable team.

"From our initial contact with Garry and the team at Point1 Building Systems, we were impressed by their knowledge of the TEK system and they were more than happy to share their expertise with us in a way that we understood. Nothing was too much trouble, even when we decided that we needed more built-in storage as the panels were being constructed - Nick Jones, Director at Point1 Building Systems, immediately had the answer and it was sorted with no fuss. The construction crew were professional, extremely organised and nothing phased them. We have no hesitation in recommending Point1 Building Systems to anyone who is considering their own self-building project." Chris and Angela Floate, Powys, September 2018

ANGELA'S TOP TIPS - "Think carefully about fitted cupboards, storage is so important. Take time when planning your kitchen, I wish I had chosen more drawers rather than cupboards."
